Spoiler note: this guide is spoiler-free and focuses on general strategy.
Persona 5 Royal is two games in one: a stylish dungeon crawler and a life simulator set across a school year in Tokyo. The calendar ties them together. Every afternoon and evening is a choice, and the players who get the most out of the game are the ones who plan their days with intent. Here is how to do it.
1. Clear Palaces as fast as you can
Each Palace comes with a deadline, but you rarely need all of that time. The most efficient approach is to secure the infiltration route in as few visits as possible, send the calling card and steal the treasure soon after. Every day you save is a day you can spend on Confidants, social stats and side activities.
Stock up on healing and SP-restoring items before you go in, so you are not forced to leave early because your team has run dry.
2. Raise social stats early
Your five social stats — Knowledge, Guts, Proficiency, Kindness and Charm — gate many Confidants and activities. Raising them early unlocks more options later, so treat them as an investment rather than a chore.
- Study in class when given the chance and answer questions correctly to build Knowledge.
- Look for activities that raise a stat and give you something else, such as earning money or progressing a Confidant.
- Pay attention to the weather: some activities give bonus stat points on rainy days.
3. Prioritise Confidants that change the game
Every Confidant has a story worth seeing, but some offer abilities that make the rest of the game easier. Bonds that improve fusion, reduce shop prices, expand your free time or strengthen your party in battle are worth prioritising early. Ranking up a Confidant is also faster when you carry a Persona of the matching Arcana.
4. Use your evenings
Evenings are easy to waste. Reading books, crafting infiltration tools, working part-time jobs and spending time with Confidants who are available at night all make good use of that slot. Books in particular can raise stats and sometimes unlock useful bonuses.
5. Plan around Mementos
Mementos is where you complete requests and grind experience without a deadline. Rather than visiting every few days, batch several requests together and clear them in one trip. This saves days and keeps your schedule tidy.
6. Do not chase perfection on your first run
It is very difficult to max every Confidant and stat in a single playthrough without a guide, and that is fine. Persona 5 Royal includes a New Game Plus mode that carries over some progress, making a second run the perfect time to complete what you missed. On your first playthrough, follow the characters you care about.
A quick daily checklist
- Is there a Palace deadline approaching?
- Is it raining, and is there a stat bonus available?
- Which Confidant is available today, and do I have a matching Persona?
- Can I combine this activity with earning money or another stat?
- Do I have enough Mementos requests to make a trip worthwhile?
Master the calendar and Persona 5 Royal opens up completely. Your year in Tokyo will feel fuller, your team will be stronger and you will see far more of what makes this game so beloved.
