Spoiler note: this guide covers the major worlds you will visit, without discussing key story twists.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is built around one big idea: exploration. As the Pathfinder, Ryder’s job is to find homes for the people who crossed dark space aboard the Andromeda Initiative’s arks. That means landing on hostile worlds, solving their problems and making them viable for settlement. Here is a primer on the planets you will spend the most time on.
How exploration works
Each major world has a viability rating. Completing missions, activating ancient structures and clearing threats raises that rating, and once a planet is viable enough you can establish an outpost. Viability also feeds into the overall progress of the Nexus, the Initiative’s hub station, unlocking rewards along the way.
The Nomad, Ryder’s all-terrain vehicle, is your main way of getting around. Upgrading it with better shields, boost and traction makes travel across large maps far more pleasant.
Eos
Eos is the first world most players explore in depth: a sunbaked desert with harsh radiation zones. It is a great introduction to the game’s structure, mixing story missions with side tasks and ancient Remnant puzzles. Clearing its environmental hazards is the first big step toward a permanent foothold in Heleus.
Havarl
Havarl is lush, overgrown and very different from Eos. Its dense jungles are full of strange plant life, and the world is closely tied to the angara, one of the cluster’s native peoples. It is a great place to learn more about their culture and history.
Voeld
An icy world where the cold itself is a threat, Voeld forces you to manage your environment by moving between heat sources. It is also a hotbed of conflict, with resistance fighters standing against a hostile occupation. Expect some of the game’s more intense combat here.
Kadara
Kadara is home to a port run by exiles who rejected the Initiative’s leadership. Morally grey choices, shady deals and toxic sulphur pools make it one of the most atmospheric locations in the game. How you deal with its factions shapes how the planet develops.
Elaaden
A blistering desert world with intense heat, Elaaden offers wide open spaces and a distinct krogan presence. It rewards players who enjoy exploring off the beaten path, with plenty of side content scattered across its dunes.
Tips for efficient exploration
- Use forward stations. Deploying them lets you fast travel, change loadouts and resupply.
- Scan everything. Scanning objects grants research data used to unlock new gear.
- Follow the side quests. Many of the best stories in Andromeda are told through optional missions.
- Bring the right squad. Companions comment on each world, and their loyalty missions are some of the game’s highlights.
- Do not rush. Raising viability takes time, and the rewards for doing it properly are worth it.
A galaxy worth discovering
Andromeda’s worlds are at their best when you slow down and treat them as places rather than checklists. Climb the ridgeline, take the long route in the Nomad and look up at the sky. Somewhere out there, the Initiative is counting on you to find a home.
